Eurostud 2012

Now that we've been in class for almost an entire semester, it's time for a little politics. Of all of the people we've discussed in class, I want you to nominate the man/woman you feel should earn the title of Euro-Stud 2012. In your post you need to:

1. Nominate your person
2. Give detailed information as to why you believe your person should be crowned "Euro-Stud 2012". It's not enough simply to say, "Napoleon is a stud because he was short and sassy." You need to back it up with some historical insight.
3. No one person may be nominated more than twice per class. If your person has been nominated twice, you must choose someone else!

Think carefully, use your book to remind yourself of all of the people we've discussed, and submit by Friday, Dec. 14th at 10:00 p.m.

the 2012 euro stud is Peter "The Great" because he not only expanded Europe to the east, but he also built Russia's navy. He atarted to create a new town called st. Petersburg. He built the very first Russian port. He left Russia, the first one to do so. To learn more about boat making, he also learned about anatomy. he almost single handedly ends Russia's solitude and fear of the out side world.

I believe that that euro stud 2012 is Peter "The Great" of Russia. Not only was a stud because he was 6'7 with a stunning mustache. But he single-hand-idly dragged the vast country of Russia out of the dark ages hundreds of years forward to the modern day Europe. The most fascinating thing about him was how he didn't sit back and send "servants" to learn all these things for him, he did it himself, then taught his workers. He himself could've built an entire city in half the time of a thousand worker. That alone makes him the Euro Stud 2012

the 2012 euro stud is Peter "The Great" because he was able accomplish lots of great things during his reign. he had an obsession with everything modern that made him stand out from all other rulers.he was also heavily influenced by Western Europe. Peter reorganized the Russian army along modern lines and established the first Russian navy.which improved Russia's position on the sea. he built the first Russian port and the city of st. Petersburg. peter was also good at getting back on his feet and attacking back with more force after each defeat. this lead him to having numerous victories in war.

My pick for "EuroStud 2012" is Elizabeth I of England. Elizabeth was put into a tough position when her half sister "Bloody" Mary tried to convert all of England in to a Catholic country. Of course the English people tried to rebel so Mary put them to death. Mary leaves England a mess for Elizabeth to have to fix. Elizabeth did just that. She took over and took charge of England. She supported English Protestants unlike her sister and also became quite famous for never marrying and having children. Because of this, she became known as the Virgin Queen. One of her biggest accomplishments was the victory against Spain in the Spanish Armada. With a little luck from the weather and confidence in herself she had a triumphant win. But most importantly, she cared about the people in England. She wanted the best for them. She was really the first person in European history to become a politique and not only a good leader for England but an outstanding leader for the rest of Europe.

My Choice for "EuroStud 2012" would also be Queen Elizabeth I. Besides all of her achievements, such as the examples Aubrie gave, I personally found her the most interesting/influencial for additional reasons. Such as the fact that she was a woman. Although there may have been other females who took the throne before her, she ruled better than them along with many of the kings we have discussed. I also admire the confidence she had in herself and her abilities. There must have been endless amounts of people who were begging her to marry, but she never chose to settle. She never seemed to back down from a challenge, and was constantly trying to improve her country. For these reasons, I feel that Queen Elizabeth I should be this year's "EuroStud".

My choice for Euro Stud 2012 is Henry IV. Henry IV was widely liked by the people, he was informaly dressed and manner which also made him popular with soldiers. He also had the wit and charm to confront the enemy face-to-face. He came to the throne as a politique. He developed the Edict of Nantes which is a very important document that proclaimed a formal religious settlement. It also granted the Huguenots religious freedoms. He also developed the Treay of Vervins which ended hostilities between France and Spain. His political and economic policies laid the foundations for the transformation of France into the absolute state it would become under Cardinal Richelieu and Louis XIV. He ended the Spanish interference in France. He converted to Catholicism to compromise and make peace. Henry IV put his peoples and countries needs before his own and strived to make peace.

My Eurostud nominee would be Louis XIV. The "Sun King" who knew what he wanted and did anything and everything to achieve it. He revoked the Edict of Nantes to get rid of the Huguenots. He also built a national army and continued the use of intendents to insure that his law would be the only one followed. The defeat of Spain and the ability for Bourbons to be on the throne of Spain was because of him. He made France into the biggest power in all of Europe, and it stayed that way for decades. He was an absolute king who did what he wanted and did not take criticism from anyone. All of the rulers before him have nothing even close to rival him and all of his achievements. "One King, One Law, One Faith."

Oh and in addition to my post above, Louis XIV built the great Versailles. One of the most beautiful and extravagent palaces in the entire world.

The most definite choice for the title of Euro-Stud 2012 is the big Henry VIII of England. No man can charm a woman better than the original womanizer, king Henry could. Henry was large and in charge,he could command the attention of a crowd with his booming voice, and natural suaveness. This goliath of a man was a whopping 6'1", with a girth of 53" around his chest. This man single handedly broke from the Roman Catholic Church, making the new, reformed Anglican Church. King Henry himself was "the only supreme head in earth of the Church of England." King Henry managed to provide a wide array of heirs to the throne, thanks to his multiple wives. These heirs included Mary and Elizabeth Tudor, and Edward VI. Truly a man with the amount of vigor, gusto, suavity, determination, and countless more adjectives, deserves the title of Euro Stud 2012, to say in the least.

My choice for "EuroStud 2012" is King Louis XIV. During his reign France was the leading European power. Louis solidified absolutism, which allowed him to rule with out the criticism of other authorities. He created religious unification when he revoked the Edict of Nantes, which resulted in the removal of the Huguenots. Louis also built Versailles, which became the new center of government. These are the reasons King Louis XIV is deserving of "EuroStud 2012."

My nomination for "Euro-Stud 2012" goes to William the III of England. Along with Mary II, he threw James II off the English throne, making him flee to France. This would later be known as "The Glorious Revolution" because it was amazingly bloodless in manner. Nobody was killed in this overthrow of the monarchy.
