Who's Your Favorite Ninja Turtle?

Of the big Italian Renaissance artists we've discussed in class (Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael), which one to you best represents the Renaissance techniques of art that we've discussed in class? Which is your favorite "turtle" and why? What argument could you make for Botticelli? Turtle or pasta??? Post by 10 p.m. on Friday, October 5th (note- this is a change in date!) and please respond to at least one other student's comments. REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME ON YOUR POSTS!!!

Michelangelo he was an iconic artist of his time. He really captured life in the 14c and 15c. He was really able to capture realism, geometry, and he used perspective really well. To me he was better than leonardo, but that is my opinion.

I think Michaelangelo was the true artist of the Italian Renaissance. He was able to use technique that was previously used by Da Vinci and Raphael, he also looked up to both of those artists. Botticelli didn't really cut it. I don't think he deserves a spot next to Michaelangelo. I also agree completely to Matt Rose's comment.

I think Leonardo da Vinci represented the Renaissance art the best. He was overall a very universal man that had not just outstanding artistic talents but overall a good example of a Renaissance man. He used geometry, perspective, and realism in many of his paintings. My favorite “turtle” would be Michelangelo. My favorite painting of his is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Even though he didn’t want to do it, it still was amazing on how much detail he has on it. Although Botticelli is a much better artist than I am, his work does not compare to the other famous Renaissance artist.
I agree with Matt when he is talking about how Michelangelo captured the life of the 14th and 15th century.

I agree with many of the points that Aubrie made. Leonardo da Vinci best represented the Renaissance because of his work with perspctive and geometry. He used both of these techniques to their best advantage. Dispite da Vinci's talent, Michelangelo is my favorite of the "turtles". He was talented in every aspect of art. He was an amazing sculptor and his work on the Sistine Chapel impresses me the most.

I dissagree with the comments above concerning Botticelli. In my opinion he should be considered a "turtle". He made a name for himself with his painting "Birth of Venus". That painting was a huge risk for him, and it clearly paid off because that painting is still so popular today. He is simiar to the rest of the "turtles", because he took risks with his art. I think taking risks is the most important part of being an artist.

I think that Leonardo da Vinci represented Renaissance art the best. My favorite would be Michelangelo because he painted the Sistine chapel ceiling which was really good becuase it was a bunch of tiny tiny pictures and it was very detailed. I don't think Bottecelli would be in the same category as the others because his work in not nearly as famous or as good as the others.

I also agree with Aubrie about the Sistene Chapel ceiling and how he did not want to do it but it is still very good.

In my opinion, in agreement with Aubrie as well, Leonardo da Vinci represents greatly the ideals of the Renaissance art.Ones such as perspective and geometry that was truly realized during the Renaissance by many of the artists, my favorite being Leonardo. I really liked how Leonardo also knew a lot of a little and a little of a lot. I really don't have an opinion on Botticelli apart from his name sounding like an awesome pasta dish.

In addition to my first post when agreeing with Matt, I like Michelangelo's painting because they were very life like in human detail and backgrounds represented the 14th and 15th century well.

I strongly agree with the points that Aubrie made about Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci best represented the Renaissance due to his broad knowledge of many different skills. He also represented the Renaissance through is work and the use of perspective and geometry. Michelangelo, however, would be my favorite "turtle." The art work he created on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is outstanding. He put a large amount of time and effort into the painting, despite the fact that he had no desire to complete it.

I agree with Ali Haag concerning Botticelli. He should be considered a "turtle." Botticelli has several well-known works of art, including the "Birth of Venus" and "Primavera." Though he may not be as well known as da Vinci and Michelangelo, he was an artist who was devoted to his art work.

I think Leonardo da Vinci was the best out of the Renaissance artist. I love his Mona Lisa painting from 1503-1504. It still leaves me wondering on why da Vinci painted her. I am very interested about this painting and I am actually wanting to look more into it and see if I can figure out why da Vinci painted Mona Lisa. I still think all of the other artist were fabulous and Michelangelo is right there behind Leonardo but the mystery behind Leonardo da Vinci is what has kept me interested and that is why he is my top favorite Renaissance artist.

I think Michaelangelo captured the whole concept of rennaissance art more than the other "turtles". He made brilliant sculptures along with amazing works of art. He put his blood sweat and tears literally into his work. Botticelli does not deserve to be held up with the four fantastic artists of the rennaissance period because he did not produce the quality work that they all did. I completely agree with Brandon's and Matt's arguments for Michalangelo being the best and Botticelli not being fit to be up there in prestige.

Michelangelo all the way! He perfected both painting and sculpture. Sometimes I'll lean on Leonardo's side, because he was smart and scientific, and it really shows in his art work. They both thought centuries ahead of their time! I don't like Botticelli. His paintings weren't as fascinating as the other's. I concur with Ryan on how Botticelli didn't produce art with as much quality as the other turtles.

I think Michelangelo best represented the Renaissance. The main ideas during the Renaissance was humanish. Michelangelos perspective drawings reflected humanism more then the drawings of the other dudes. Personally my favorite "turtle" is Leonardo da Vinci. Besides having crazy artistic skills, he also invented things and knew a lot about the human body. He sounds like a guy who couldnt just sit and chill for a minute, he always had to be doing something. I completely agree with Brandon about Botticelli. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Rafael had a class of their own. A class above all. Botticelli wasn't good enough to be standing among the best of the best. I think he should forever be a pasta.

I think Michaelangelo was the best "ninja Turtle! He was the one, to me, that kind of shaped the art of the renaissance and had direct affects on humanism.
